August 2016

Welcome to August Blog-the sun is shining-very hotly for a change and below we have the manufacturing of a Mandap-this is an ornamental structure for the purpose of a Hindu or Jain wedding. The main wedding ceremonies take place under the mandap.
It is traditionally made of wood but now modern materials are sometimes used-i.e Metal.
Use of a mandap is an ancient custom.Modern mandaps use fabrics, lights, crystals and flowers.

Below is how we manufactured this- the tube bending was undertaken by a specialist tube bending firm.We actually made two Mandaps-one large one for a stage area, and one smaller Mandap for the entrance. Also some lotus petals.

Making the lotus petals.

Matching the shape and correct angle of bend.

Some completed

All ready!

Bent metal tubes as they arrived in the workshop-these had to be cut to size by ourselves.
All internal bending radii calculated by ourselves for the bending company.

A tube invasion-luckily they did not fill the whole workshop!

The middle of the large Mandap taking shape-the four main legs will bolt to this.

The ends of the main tubes drilled and slotted ready for construction

Outside in the yard-putting together the main structure-it is 8mx8m when together so had to be taken outside as the main workshop lights were in the way.

Various components ready and completed.

This is the small Mandap put together inside the workshop with the central ring hanging in place

Small Mandap main structure
 before leaf decoration.

Small Mandap with rod bent around the tubes and decorative leaves welded on.

Leaf detailing on large Mandap.

Hopefully we will be able to have some photographs from our customer of our finished work but this picture shows a finished Mandap, decorated and in use for a wedding.

Until September-enjoy the last of the longer sunny days............................

June 2016-RHS Chelsea Flower Show Skirt.

We were commissioned by our customer Larry Walshe to manufacture a special skirt-
M&G Investments sponsor RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

Below is how we manufactured this:

 Paperwork and laying out

Rough sketch and picture.

Rusty rods-this was important as the dress was to compliment the M&G garden designed by Cleve West.

Rusty Rods bent into the basic skirt structure.

Taking shape on the bench.

Completed main frame

Do not forget the sponsors logo!

This rather strange waistband was worn by the model and the skirt was then attached to the chains in order to make it swing and hang correctly.

In The Times Newspaper!

Below is the video produced by Larry Walshe-See the finished article with the flowers etc.

Hope you have enjoyed this months special Blogspot article.
